The Talent Imperative: Grow It or Die Trying

During this interactive presentation/discussion session, our own Sharon Cloke from Con-Way will share Con-way’s Talent Management Mission: To ensure business strategy is supported by the right people, with the right skills, at the right cost, doing the right thing for our employees and customers.

Seems simple enough, but behind this ‘To Do List’ are policies, processes, programs and practices that require vision, commitment and discipline to ensure the mission is fully realized. In this session, Core OD Consulting will share Con-way’s journey to becoming a talent-powered organization.

In case-study format, the step-by-step approach taken by this global transportation company will be revealed and discussed including: how they gained visibility to talent within and across 5 business units; the importance of determining a common definition of performance and potential; identification of knowledge and experience gaps (as related to strategic needs); and the framework for focused development of future leaders.

This session is pre-approved for HCRI creditLearning Objective: As a result of this session, attendees will:

  • Understand how to define and link together organizational strategy, capabilities and talent needs.
  • Understand how to execute sound processes that evaluate and discover diverse sources of talent and deploy it in ways that engage and align people around the business strategy.
  • Learn how to build distinctive capabilities and competencies needed to grow and to compete.
