    Session Descriptions:

Meg FairchildBegin with the End: Using Evaluation Measures to Inform Your Design

So much effort goes into the design, development, and implementation of learning programs, but equally important is the need to design an evaluation strategy that provides insight into program effectiveness. By planning ahead and thinking strategically about what data you need to measure effectiveness, you'll be able to build data capture into your course or learning program. Meaningful measurement then drives program design and development instead of lagging behind.

Be ready to see some real-life examples and have a chance to break into small teams to use sample learning journey maps to identify which data measures will provide insight into program efficiency and effectiveness. Walk away with a glimpse into how this method could be used and a list of tools to help you implement this strategy within your organization.

Lisa Toenniges, Drive, Drive, Drive... The Project Forward

Your role as a training development project manager cuts across a variety of disciplines and requires you to wear a number of “hats.” And, in the end, you are responsible for the success of the project.

In this session, Innovative Learning Group Chief Executive Officer Lisa Toenniges will discuss the various phases of a project – the kick-off, the middle, and the end – and what the project manager can do in each of these phases to ensure the project is driven to a successful completion.

Anne Apking, Lessons from a Puppy Raiser Dropout

“Come” “Sit” “Down” “Stay” You would think that a Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis and 40 years of experience in Learning Design and Development would qualify me to train an 8-week-old puppy to become a successful service dog. But after only 5 days, I admitted defeat. However, I believe we learn more from our failures than our successes! Together, let’s take a close look at this experience and analyze where things went “astray,” and how we, as L&D professionals, can apply these same lessons with humans!

Entrepreneurial Business of Learning Professionals, Consultants, and Leadership Coaches with Dr. Diana Wong

Let's talk about creating and building a business as entrepreneurs when we are learning professionals, trainers, consultants, and leadership coaches.

We all do great work in these roles. Seeing ourselves as entrepreneurs requires a different perspective and a broader set of skills. Learning to MANAGE our business is different from DOING our business.

    • Do we have a strategy?
    • Did we create a recognizable brand?
    • What are we doing to build our client pipeline?
    • What is our process of connecting and developing client relationships?
    • How are we managing the administrative work of contracting, accounting, billing or invoicing?
    • What is the most appropriate billing rate(s)?

    Objectives

Participants will be able to -

    • obtain feedback for their entrepreneurial identity
    • discuss the entrepreneurial business side of a creating and building a training business
    • examine the strategic orientation of building a business
    • explore mission critical business issues related to contracting, accounting, financing, billing rates, invoicing, etc.
    • review optional solutions for significant entrepreneurial issues in their creating and managing their business

Participants could bring their wisdom from business experiences, questions about being an entrepreneur and running their own business.

    Agenda

    5:30 - 6:15 PM | Dinner & Networking

    6:15 - 6:25 PM | Welcome & Introductions
